Grade 5 Exam cut-off marks to be released soon – PM

Immediate steps will be taken to release the cut-off marks for the Grade 5 Scholarship Examination, which faced disruptions due to the leakage of certain questions, Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya stated in Parliament yesterday (27).
She also stated that measures are being taken to prevent similar incidents in the future, including the establishment of a resource pool and a question paper bank for examination committees.
The controversy arose when it was discovered that three questions conceptually similar to those in the final exam paper had been shared in a social media group linked to a private tuition class in Kurunegala a day before the examination. Investigations conducted by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) confirmed the leak, leading to legal actions against those involved. As a result, the thirteenth respondent in the petition has been ordered to pay Rs 3 million, while the sixth and ninth respondents have been directed to pay Rs 2 million each as State costs.
To strengthen examination security, the government has introduced several measures, including restricting question paper preparation exclusively to the Confidential Unit of the Sri Lanka Examinations Department, implementing stricter security checks, and ensuring classified documents do not leave the Confidential Unit. Additionally, plans are in place to recruit and train new members for examination committees and develop a semi-automated system for question paper preparation to minimise human intervention.
